2016 Right-of-Way (ROW) Clearing Project In a local safely review, MDOT has found a higher-than-normal amount of traffic crashes involving fixed objects (trees). Using that report, the Benzie County Road Commission applied for and received a grant for Right-of-Way clearing on seven main Benzie County roads, with the work to be done October, November, and December of 2016. Please read this 2016 Right-of-Way Clearing Project document for full details.

Update from 12-19-2016 The ROW clearing project has been suspended for the winter.  The contractor was not able to get the required restoration completed prior to winter setting in.  The contractors have not been fully paid and will be back in the spring of 2017 to complete the project, including final cleanup and restoration of disturbed areas including seed and mulch. They faced a difficult task to complete ROW clearing on 25 miles of roadway before winter. In order to comply with U.S. Fish and Wildlife regulations regarding the protection of the endangered Indiana Bat, the project could not start before October 1, 2016. Affected property owners should feel free to call the Road Commission and discuss any concerns they may have with the project.  Thank you for your patience.
