SNOW ALERT!

The practice of pushing snow onto the plowed portion of the road or road right of way is both dangerous and illegal - Act No. 82, Public Acts of 1978.

This practice could result in civil and criminal liability. Persons pushing snow onto the plowed roadways or right of way could be held liable for property damages or personal injury resulting from an accident casued by the ridges of snow or large chunks left on the roadway and the powed portion of the right of way

HELP MAKE SNOW PLOWING SAFER

- Do not plow snow onto or across roads
- Move vehicles off the roadside
- Don't pile snow high near intersections and driveways
- Keep rocks, timbers, etc. away from the road
- Keep children and pets away from the road plowing
- Don't snow blow into the road
- Don't throw snowballs at vehicles
- Report abandoned vehicles


Spring Weight Restriction Bulletin for 2008 - #1

Effective Wednesday, March 12, 2008 at 7:00 AM, Seasonal Weight and Speed Restrictions will be imposed
and enforced on all  Benzie County roads, with the exception of the following All Season (Class A) Routes:                  
                        River Road (CR608) from US-31 to M-22
                        CR 669 (Maple City Hwy and Thompsonville Hwy) from the village of Thompsonville
                                       north to the Leelanau County Line
                        Joyfield Rd (CR 602) from US 31 to Smeltzer Rd.
                        North Manistee County Line Road (CR 602) from US 31 east to Kurick Rd.
                        Fewins Road from Maple City Hwy (CR 669) to Reynolds Rd. (CR 667)
                        Reynolds Road (CR667) from Fewins to US-31
                        Cinder Road (CR608) from Pioneer Rd. (CR677) to Thompsonville Hwy (CR669)
                                    (There is no Class A connector at Cinder and Pioneer).
                        Indian Hill Road (CR 679) from US 31 to Fowler and Fowler from Indian Hill Rd. to M-22.
                        Grace Road (CR 606) from US 31 west to Forrester Rd.
                        Platte Road (CR 706) from US 31 to M 22.

All extended permits will be valid for oversize only until weight restrictions have been removed.

The Michigan State Police, Motor Carrier Division will be enforcing weight restrictions in Benzie County.

The Michigan County Road Association has a website that updates weight restrictions for every county in
 the state.  You can log onto their website at www.michountyroads.org. Click on Seasonal Weight Restrictions
 on the bottom right.
